Stars Over Newberry is the annual fundraising event for Discover Your Forest
When is Stars Over Newberry?
Friday, August 9th, 2019. 7:00 – 10:00 PM
What is happening at the event?
On Friday, August 9th, 2019, Discover Your Forest will play host to hundreds of guests at our 5th Annual Stars Over Newberry fundraiser. The event will take place atop Lava Butte in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and will feature stargazing with Worthy Garden Club and Sisters Astronomy Club, live music, a silent auction, delicious Worthy Brewing beers, wine from Volcano Vineyards and creative bites by Bowtie Catering. We hope you will join us as we raise much needed funds for our conservation education programs which connect over 9,000 kids annually with their public lands on free field trips. This event will sell out so get your tickets early. Patron tickets are available for those who want to provide additional support for these important programs.
How can I get tickets?
Patron Tickets are available now! Click here for current ticket purchases. General Admission will go on sale Saturday, June 15th. Be sure to get your tickets early as this event will sell out!
I already purchased my tickets, will physical tickets be sent to me?
No physical tickets are required if you purchased your ticket over the phone or through the DYF website. All guests will need to go to the check-in table as soon as they arrive. There they will receive their event program and will be directed to take a shuttle to the top of the butte for the event.
What time can I arrive at the event?
Guests can enter the monument beginning at 6:30 PM and will be able to take shuttles up to the top of the butte starting at 6:45 PM
Where do I park?
Guests should proceed into the Main Entrance of Lava Lands off HWY 97, from there a volunteer in the welcome kiosk will direct you to on-site parking. Once you’ve parked head to the check-in table to get your program and bidder # and board one of our shuttles to the top of Lava Butte!
What should I wear to the event?
Dress is casual. Make sure to bring a sweater in case it gets chilly. We recommend leaving your stilettos at home.
Are kids allowed at Stars Over Newberry?
Kids are welcome at the event and there is lots of Star gazing to keep them entertained. We do not offer a kids ticket price.
What type of food will be served? Should I eat dinner before I arrive?
Bowtie Catering will be serving heavy appetizers and dessert throughout the event. These should definitely keep you sated during the course of the event, but do not represent the equivalent of a full meal. Grabbing a bite at home or at a local restaurant before arriving is advised for those with big appetites.
What is going to be in the auction at the event?
Stars Over Newberry will feature over 25 photographs in our silent auction. All of the auction items are professional photos depicting various scenes from the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests. The photos range in value from $100 – $800 and proceeds from the sale of the art will benefit Discover Your Forest.
Can I buy something if I’m not going to the event?
To place an absentee bid, call 541-383-5530.
What types of payment will be accepted at the event?
We will accept payment for tickets and auction items in the form of Cash, Check or Credit/Debit card.
What do the proceeds from the event go to?
All proceeds from Stars Over Newberry go to support educational programs on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests.
Who was the caterer/beer/wine/band/auctioneer?
Below is a list of all of the vendors we worked with for Stars Over Newberry:
Why are they closing the butte to cars on Friday?
The butte is closed to vehicles on Friday, August 9th. This is to ensure that vendors and volunteers can safely set up the equipment for the event. The Butte will re-open with normal operating hours on Saturday. Visitors may walk up the butte throughout the day, but some disruption due to event set up is to be expected.
What if I bought a ticket and I cannot go?
Tickets are non-refundable. You can rest assured that your ticket money is going to a great cause.
